Intervention
Our strategy aims to prevent homelessness wherever possible. However, we aim to provide a rapid, dignified and cost-effective service in an unavoidable emergency. This includes ensuring that there is a consistent and clear offer to people sleeping rough.
The strand aims to:
- Ensure that people who are homeless are identified quickly and placed into suitable, cost-effective accommodation where necessary.
- Avoid and reduce the use of Bed and Breakfast and nightly-paid accommodation.
- Ensure that support is provided to overcome barriers to accessing (and sustaining) emergency accommodation.
Our work to provide intervention in a crisis includes:
- Accommodation - increasing the number of homes managed by the council’s Property Companies, redesigning our emergency offer to people sleeping rough, improving our offer to victim-survivors of domestic abuse, and reducing reliance on nightly-paid accommodation.
- Support - including redeveloping our Personal Housing Plans and guidance to applicants and partners.
- Partnerships - developing a “by name” partnership to support people who are the furthest from having their accommodation needs met sustainably, and recommissioning an intensive support service to help meet their needs.
