Recovery

Homelessness is a traumatic experience, but everyone in the borough has a potential part to play in our response. This strategy acknowledges the importance of both the ‘mainstream’ of community life and the expertise of specialists to help people recover.
This strand aims to:
- ensure that nobody experiences homelessness more than once.
- ensure that formerly homeless people are empowered to thrive in the borough.
Our work to help people recover from homelessness includes:
- Health and substances - working with Inclusion Health partners, improving access to mainstream health services for homeless people, and developing a recovery offer for people with alcohol dependency.
- Community engagement - improving access to employment placements and apprenticeships, developing a ‘skills-based’ mentoring scheme and maximising use of local leisure and cultural facilities.
- Sustainment - embedding a new information and advice service, reviewing existing sustainment services, and developing a programme of “multi agency check-ins” to ensure people settle well into their new accommodation.
