West Norfolk Shared Prosperity Funded projects

An overview of the approved projects being delivered through UK Shared Prosperity Funding and Rural England Prosperity Funding for King’s Lynn and West Norfolk

The Borough Council cabinet has approved use of Shared Prosperity Funds to support delivery of the West Norfolk Investment Plan priorities during the period 2022-2025.

Town centres
Reducing the cost of living, improving energy efficiency and tackling climate change
  • Community Energy Saving Measures
  • Community Support for West Norfolk (warm spaces)
  • West Norfolk Community Cycle Scheme - low cost cycle hire hosted by Alive West Norfolk at Lynnsport supported by a programme of community cycling development events (more details coming soon).
  • Active Communities Programme – free community activity sessions to enhance residents’ health and wellbeing delivered across the borough by Alive West Norfolk.
  • Go Green (communities) provides grants of up to £8,000 for village halls, community buildings, and sports halls in West Norfolk to support community groups to make energy efficiency and environmental improvements to community buildings to reduce the carbon footprint. This scheme is being delivery by Community Action Norfolk on behalf of the Borough Council.

  • Ferry Access Improvements - funding towards a study led by Norfolk County Council into access improvements for the West Lynn ferry.

  • Connected King’s Lynn’s (coming soon 2024/25)
  • Restoring West Norfolk’s Peatlands for All - work to help restore three of West Norfolk’s most important remaining peatlands (Roydon Common, Tony Hallett Memorial Reserve, East Winch Common), build a team of Peatland Champions to contribute to the ongoing management and monitoring of these sites, and enthuse others in the local community to better understand and contribute to managing their local peatlands.

Employment support for economically inactive people
  • BOOST - supporting 16-30 year olds in West Norfolk into training and employment.
  • On Track - King’s Lynn and West Norfolk - The Matthew Project - reduce barriers to training and employment for 16-24-year-olds not in education employment or training.
Courses including basic, life & career skills
  • Tech Skills for Life - Norfolk County Council - free one-to-one support for digital topics (e.g. NHS services, basic digital skills, online shopping), with the purpose of increasing confidence and enabling residents to unlock the benefits of being online.
Tailored support for the employed to access courses
Local areas to fund local skills needs
  • VENI People & Place - This project will work to develop skills opportunities for the visitor economy and enable educators, businesses and students to work together to expand the skills horizon in Kings Lynn and West Norfolk.  The project will apply tried and tested initiatives to support growth in the visitor economy and to bring alive the visitor economy in KL&WN through events, community campaigns, and innovative networking.  The project will also inspire and enliven places across Kings Lynn and West Norfolk through an exciting events programme.
  • Volunteer it Yourself - the delivery of three community facility refurbishment projects across King’s Lynn and West Norfolk involving local young volunteers aged 16+ to learn and apply vocational trade skills on the job whilst being mentored by, and working alongside, professional tradespeople.

REPF Rural Communities (2023-25)

REPF Rural Communities funded projects list
REPF West Norfolk Rural Community Capital Grants

Providing funding opportunities to investment in resilient community services and assets for local people. This programme is being run by Norfolk Community Foundation in partnership with BCKLWN.

REPF Active Travel Enhancements

Working in partnership with Norfolk County Council to deliver Active Travel improvements across rural West Norfolk.

  • Interpretation and art for the rural west Norfolk stretch of the Norfolk Coastal Path
  • Walking and Cycling Waymarker Audit
  • Parish cycle storage grants. The West Norfolk Community Cycle Storage Grants, funded by the Rural England Prosperity Fund, and by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund in North and South Wootton, invited expressions of interest from parish and town councils in November 2023. Grant offers have now been made available to 24 parish councils who will be able to introduce storage within their villages to support and encourage cycling.

REPF Rural Businesses (2023-25)

REPF Rural Businesses funded projects list
REPF West Norfolk Rural Business Capital Grants

This grant scheme can provide funding of between £10,000 up to a maximum value of £100,000 to cover up to 50% of eligible capital costs. Grants will support new and existing rural businesses to develop new products and facilities that will be of wider benefit to the local economy and to support the development and promotion of the visitor economy.

Projects must be complete by December 2024 and the application window will close ahead of this so please don’t delay your application. Our friendly grant advisors will help guide you through the application process.

This funding covers rural areas only and excludes King’s Lynn town centre businesses and some built up industrial areas - see below to find out how to determine your eligibility and how to access this funding opportunity.
