Sustainability Appraisal

The Sustainability Appraisal (SA) helps evaluate the effects the Local Plan review will have on the Borough

About the SA

Throughout the Local Plan review, the Plan has undergone Sustainability Appraisal. This incorporates the requirements of the EU Directive 2001/42/EC on Strategic Environmental Assessments, incorporated into UK law by the Environmental Assessment of Plans and Programmes Regulations 2004. Sustainability Appraisal is an evaluation of the effects the Local Plan is likely to have on:

  • social
  • economic, and
  • environmental conditions of the plan area

It assesses policy and site options, comparing for each the chosen (preferred) approach against reasonable alternatives.
