Guidance notes on how to join a virtual interview
About your interview
If you've been invited to a job interview, you'll receive a confirmation letter giving you the date and time.
When your interview is due to start, please follow this guidance in order to join the virtual interview, which we'll conduct via Microsoft Teams.
The guidance you must follow will depend on if you're using a computer or mobile phone.
Joining a meeting from a windows desktop
Go to the meeting invite in your email and select 'Join Microsoft Teams Meeting'.
That will open a web page, where you'll see two choices: Select 'Join on the web instead' if you don't already have the Microsoft Teams app installed. If you join on the web, you should use either the Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome browser.
Your browser may ask if it's okay for Teams to use your microphone and camera. Be sure to allow it so you'll be seen and heard in your meeting.
Enter your name and choose your audio and video settings. Select 'Phone audio' if you want to listen to the meeting on your mobile phone.
When you're ready, select 'Join now'. This will bring you into the meeting lobby. We'll notify the meeting organizer that you're there, and someone in the meeting can then admit you.
Joining a meeting from a mobile device
You'll need the Microsoft Teams app installed before you can join the meeting. The app can be downloaded from either the Apple App Store for IOS devices or Google Play Store for android devices.
So download and install Microsoft Teams from the app store. Then go to the meeting invite in your email and select 'Join Microsoft Teams Meeting'.
The link will open the Teams app. Select 'Join as a guest'.
Select 'OK' to allow Teams to access your microphone and/or camera.
Type your name in the box provided and select 'Join meeting'.
You'll join the Lobby initially. Someone from the Borough Council will admit you into the meeting. The audio and camera controls can be found on the floating toolbar.
The video and microphone controls will be enabled as you are let into the meeting. Tap the centre of the screen to toggle the audio controls toolbar on or off.
Notes
If no one admits you to the meeting within 15 minutes, you'll be removed from the lobby. If that happens, you can try joining again.
