Low/no budget ways to keep active and enjoy yourself

Keeping active is proven to help you feel better. It’s good for your physical and mental health, and that can help you cope with other problems you might have in your life. It doesn’t have to be expensive.

With a network of more than 80 play areas across the borough and a programme of free events running throughout the year, there’s always free fun to be had in west Norfolk.

Keep active

West Norfolk has more than 80 play areas – all of which are free to use – as well as an extensive network of open spaces and coastline. Visit our play areas page and set your location to find play areas near you.

Through Alive West Norfolk, the council is offering many fun sessions at a very low price – some fun sessions can be accessed from just 50p with an Alive concession card, or £1 with a standard Alive card. For full details of the scheme, please see the Alive West Norfolk website.

Health walks are short, locally-held walks where you're encouraged to walk at your own pace. Walk leaders are friendly and support all needs and fitness levels. The walks are free and you don't have to book a place. For more information, please contact our local co-ordinator David Mace. Call 01553 773164 or email

Parkrun is a collection of free, 5-kilometre events for walkers, runners and volunteers. They take place every Saturday morning 9am in King’s Lynn, Sandringham, Hunstanton and Downham Market. Taking part is free but please register in advance.

Have fun

The borough council runs free events throughout the year all over the borough to promote resident wellbeing. Visit our events page to find out what free events the council is hosting in King’s Lynn. There is also a Hunstanton events page. For details of events coming up soon, please see our Facebook page.
