Beat the Tide, the Hunstanton Beach Run, is back!

About the event
Beat the Tide is a fun event for everyone. Club runners and athletes, joggers, parkrunners, families- we want to see you all entering and enjoying the event. Beat the Tide is both a 5k event and a 10k event with entrants choosing on the day which distance they will run. There will be some puddles and some sandy mud in places so be prepared to get a little wet and muddy! Importantly however, the route will avoid the very heavy mud at the Heacham end that was included in previous events. Some of this will be dependent on the weather, but it will be great fun whatever!
Starting in front of the Oasis with a mass warm up just before 9am, runners will begin the beach run at Groin 12 and complete a 5k loop, running mainly towards Heacham and back. 10k runners will complete two loops. Medals will be awarded to male and female runners finishing 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the 5k and 10k events (at approximately 10:15am). All other finishers will not be timed or placed by the organisers. All entrants will receive a special Beat the Tide medal (make sure you go through the finish funnel). Weather conditions permitting, runners should have about 1 hour 30 mins to beat the tide! Should the tide beat you, then you can choose to go around the groins or complete the run on the prom.
The course will be marshalled and first aid will be on hand. Participation in this event is at a runner’s own risk.
Event rules
10k runners must be aged 15 or over on the day of the event. Children under 11 years old may only enter the 5k if an adult enters and runs with them. Because the event is a low cost, charitable one, all entrants will pay the same entry fee, irrespective of distance or age. Dogs may NOT take part and are not allowed on the beach in the summer. All runners must collect and display an event number on their shirts. They will receive an event medal as they pass through the finish funnel ONLY if they are wearing their number.

Entry
There are 250 places in the event and entry is online only. First come, first served.
The entry system will close well before the event so please enter early. The entry fee is split between event costs and a donation to the RNLI. Your entry will be acknowledged and you will receive joining instructions closer to the event.
Please note that weather conditions are changeable on the coast and organisers reserve the right to change the course and /or event arrangements on the day according to those prevailing weather conditions.
Registration
All runners will be required to wear an event number pinned to their shirt/vest. These can be collected from the Oasis café on Saturday 1 June (we would encourage this, to save time on Sunday) or before the event on Sunday morning.

Partners
The event is organised by the Borough Council of King’s Lynn & West Norfolk with support from West Norfolk Athletic Club (WNAC) and volunteers from the Hunstanton parkrun. The event is a charity event with funds being raised for the RNLI. KL1 Radio is also supporting the event along with Alive Oasis.
WNAC
West Norfolk AC is one of the largest athletic clubs in the area and is based at Lynnsport in King’s Lynn. They cover every discipline and welcome newcomers.

Parkrun
Parkrun is a nationwide network of 5k runs for the whole community, always taking place on a Saturday morning at 9am and organised by volunteers. The Hunstanton parkrun began in 2019 and always welcomes newcomers and all abilities.

Alive Oasis
Hunstanton’s major leisure centre and swimming pool is supporting the event by providing registration areas, use of changing facilities and the mass warm up.
There is a handily placed café at the Oasis too, with an entrance directly from the Prom.

RNLI
The Royal National Lifeboat Institution is celebrating its 200 year and the Hunstanton branch is making 2024 a big year for fundraising. RNLI lifeboat crews protect hundreds of communities around the UK and save lots of lives at sea. They are a voluntary organisation that depends on charitable donations to keep their valuable work going. The RNLI will have a presence at Beat the Tide; please support them generously.
