Memorial Safety Testing

To ensure the closed churchyards remain safe for all visitors and users the Council instructed a qualified contractor to carry out memorial safety testing in October 2023 – the results of the testing have been shared with the Diocese of Ely and Norwich respectively as well as individual churches. If your memorial has been identified as unstable or posing a risk, then we would ask you to speak to the Church or Diocese who will advise what permissions are required for remedial work to be carried out in their church by a qualified stonemason.

To assist you with any queries you might have we have created a frequently asked questions document to guide you through the next steps to making your memorial safe.
