Apply to keep livestock on the allotment

Emergency contact details

We will need your emergency contact details in case of any emergencies regarding your livestock:

  • I am aware that under section 9 of the Animal Welfare Act of 2006, I am legally responsible for making sure that the welfare needs of my animals are met.
  • I understand that the council reserves the right to share my personal information with the RSPCA should the welfare of my animals be called into question.
  • I am aware that keeping cockerels is banned on all council allotment sites and will be considered as a breach of tenancy.
  • I have read and understood section 13 of the Allotment Rules.
Please note: You will also need to submit an application to build a Hen House or Rabbit Hutch structure on the land to house the livestock. Please fill in the following section.

Apply to build a structure on the allotment

Are the measurements in feet or metres?
What materials have been used to build the structure?

  • I am aware that I may be required to remove this building/structure at the termination of my Tenancy. If removed by the council, I understand that I may be required to pay a removal charge.
  • I am aware that I am obliged to keep the building/structure in a good order and state of repair.
  • I have read and understood section 9 of the Allotment Rules.

Apply to nominate an allotment co-worker

Your nominated co-worker must meet the following eligibility criteria:
  • over 18
  • live within the unparished area of King's Lynn
  • not already have an allotment in another area
  • not have any outstanding debts

In the event that I am no longer able to tend to my allotment, I request that the allotment tenancy be passed to the above named person. If this person refuses the tenancy, I acknowledge that the allotment will be offered to the next person on the waiting list. I have read and understood section 5 of the Allotment Rules.

Apply to terminate tenancy of an allotment

I hereby give the required 28 days notice to terminate the tenancy of my allotment. This notice period will end on 22 May 2024.

I understand that:
  • the acceptance by the council of this Termination Notice does not prejudice the council’s right to recover arrears of rent outstanding
  • the allotment must be cleared of any livestock, buildings and materials of any kind that are the property of the allotment holder
  • the allotment must be left in a clean and tidy condition and void of personal belongings from the date provided above
  • I will be required to pay the council the cost of clearance (minimum £150.00 per plot) if unsafe buildings/materials are left on the allotment, or if the allotment is in an otherwise untidy condition
  • allotment site keys must be returned to the main council offices by the date provided above
  • I must have read and understood section 17 of the Allotment Rules

Privacy Notice

The Council has a duty to process and store your personal information safely and securely in line with data protection legislation, which here means the General Data Protection Regulations (Regulation (EC) 2016/679 which is in force from 25 May 2018) (GDPR) and any national implementing laws, regulations and secondary legislation, as amended or updated from time to time, in the UK and then any successor legislation to the GDPR.

The Borough Council of King’s Lynn and West Norfolk (the Council), of Kings Court, Chapel Street, King’s Lynn, Norfolk, PE30 1EX is the data controller for the purposes of the GDPR and associated domestic law.

We will use your personal information for the purposes of the provision of allotments. The processing of this information is necessary for the Council to undertake a public task, i.e. the processing is necessary for the Council to perform a task in the public interest or for its official functions, and the task or function has a clear basis in law, in this case the Small Holding and Allotment Act 1950, as amended.

Your information will be kept strictly confidential. It will be stored separately from other information in a password-protected database on the Council’s computer system.

Your personal information will be kept for as long as you require an allotment and for a period after the service is terminated. You can find more information about our retention policy on the privacy notice page. We will only use your data within the terms of data protection laws, will delete your data securely and only keep it for as long as necessary. We will review dates for keeping personal data in the future and if necessary update these privacy notices.

You may see copies of the data held about you and ask for it to be corrected or deleted.
