The Borough Council of King’s Lynn and West Norfolk has adopted the Norfolk Coast National Landscape Management Plan, which sets how the coast will be managed and protected over the next few years.
In West Norfolk alone there are just over 90km of coastline, including the western length from North Wootton and Castle Rising (north of King’s Lynn) to Burnham Overy/ Holkham Park.
Cllr Sandra Squire, Cabinet Member for Environmental and Coastal, has been the lead Member driving the new Management Plan forward. She said:
“The new Norfolk Coast National Landscape Management Plan is the culmination of hard work by all members and staff of the Norfolk Coast Partnership, and partner organisations including the Borough Council.
“I wish to pay tribute to all the partners’ hard work in developing the new management plan, which is very different from previous versions: it’s more accessible, visual, relevant and relatable to audiences and users, and I am extremely pleased with the end product.”
As a member of the Norfolk Coast Partnership the Borough Council plays a key role in conserving and enhancing the natural beauty of the Norfolk Coast National Landscape.
The Partnership members include local planning authorities, Natural England, the Environment Agency, the Marine Management Organisation, RSPB, National Trust, Norfolk Wildlife Trust, community groups and representatives from the tourism, farming and business sectors.
Together the partners prepare and implement management plans for the NCNL, which are updated approximately every five years.
The latest plan sets an overarching vision to create ‘thriving nature and vibrant communities, existing in harmony’. That vision is supported by a mission to ‘protect, restore and enhance nature while empowering communities through active collaboration, sustainable practices and shared stewardship of the Norfolk Coast’.
Each of the members must formally adopt the plan, which the Borough Council of King’s Lynn and West Norfolk did on 11 June.
The NCNL Management Plan 2025-2030 will be published on the Partnership’s website, once all relevant partners (those with statutory decision making powers) have endorsed it.
