Statement from the Leader of the Borough Council of King's Lynn & West Norfolk
The Leader of the Borough Council of King’s Lynn and West Norfolk has responded to reports that the prospective Reform administration at Norfolk County Council has announced its intention to take legal action against the government in relation to Local Government Reorganisation proposals.
Councillor Alistair Beales, Leader of the Borough Council of King's Lynn & West Norfolk, said:
“It’s no surprise that the prospective administration at County Hall wishes to challenge the Government on Local Government Reorganisation proposals for Norfolk.
We recognise that there are differing views across local government on the best future structures for councils and it is entirely legitimate for new administrations to seek legal clarity where it is necessary to do so.
We believe it is important that councils continue to work constructively together in the interests of residents across the county. We will pursue a sensible and productive working relationship with the administration at the County Council. We believe it is possible to both challenge aspects of the current process while continuing to engage pragmatically and responsibly with partners and Government.
The Borough Council will continue to focus on protecting local representation, maintaining strong public services and securing the best possible outcome for our communities.”
