Residents and visitors to Downham Market can look forward to an exciting transformation at Memorial Fields, where a range of new play equipment will be installed over the coming months.
This upgrade is part of a wider commitment to improving local amenities and has been made possible through combined funding. The project is part‑funded by the UK Government, with £50,000 from the Rural England Prosperity Fund, alongside a £12,500 contribution from the borough council’s play area budget.
Dave Morton, Business Operations Manager at the borough council, said:
“This comprehensive project will enhance a much‑loved community space, creating a safe, modern, and enjoyable environment for children and families.
I’d like to thank residents for their patience while installation takes place. Members of the public will be unable to access Memorial Fields during some of this work, please remember that the Howdale play area remains available.
The existing equipment at Memorial Fields has reached the end of its life. This upgrade gives us the opportunity to introduce more accessible and inclusive play options for everyone to enjoy. We’re grateful to our partners and funding bodies for helping make this possible.”
Local company Online Playgrounds has already begun removing the outdated equipment and will soon start installing the new play features, which are expected to serve the community for many years to come.
