Nominations open for candidates in the upcoming Norfolk County Council election

Could you be a county councillor?

The Borough Council of King’s Lynn & West Norfolk is now inviting nominations from individuals wishing to stand in the Norfolk County Council election, taking place on Thursday 7 May.

All County Council seats across Norfolk will be contested, including 14 divisions within the King’s Lynn & West Norfolk area.

The Notice of Election has been published, and information about the polls is available at west-norfolk.gov.uk/nccelection. Updates will be added throughout the election period.

Standing as a candidate

To stand for election, prospective candidates must:

  • Meet the required eligibility criteria
  • Secure supporters to formally propose their nomination
  • Complete and submit a nomination form, including consent to nomination

Completed nomination forms must be submitted by 4pm on Thursday 9 April. The list of validly nominated candidates will be published shortly after the deadline.

Information for voters

Polling cards are now being dispatched to registered electors. Anyone not yet on the electoral register still has time to apply — the deadline to register is 11.59pm on Monday 20 April. Registration can be completed quickly online at gov.uk/register-to-vote.

Voters can choose to cast their ballot:

  • In person at a polling station
  • By post
  • By proxy, by appointing someone they trust to vote on their behalf

Voter ID requirements

Voters attending a polling station on 7 May must show an accepted form of photo ID, such as a passport, driving licence, or a PASS‑accredited card.

Anyone without an accepted form of ID can apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate. Applications must be submitted by 5pm on Tuesday 28 April. Further information is available at electoralcommission.org.uk/voterID or by calling 0800 328 0280.

Postal and proxy voting deadlines

  • Postal vote applications: 5pm on Tuesday 21 April
  • Proxy vote applications: 5pm on Tuesday 28 April
