Statement: Norfolk County Council elections are back on

Published: Monday, 16th February 2026

Today we welcome news that the Norfolk County Council elections are back on this May, after the Government withdrew its previous decision to postpone them.

Cllr Alistair Beales, Council Leader at the Borough Council, said: “I am delighted the Government has recognised the strength of community feeling and today reversed their decision to postpone the Norfolk County Council elections.

"Respecting people’s right to vote is paramount in a democracy and should not be over-ridden by concerns over capacity to hold elections. As a borough council, we were very clear these elections, having already been delayed by 12 months, needed to go ahead in May 2026 and this is the right outcome for our residents and for democracy.”
