The Borough Council is reminding residents and visitors that Hunstanton remains very much open for the half term break, with plenty to enjoy across the town.
Cllr Sandra Squire, Cabinet Member for Environment and Coastal, said: “I visited Hunstanton last week following the unwelcome news that a hole had opened on the Promenade. A small section between the Waterside Bar and the Oasis has been fenced off while our teams carry out essential work, but all businesses in the area remain fully accessible.
“We expect prom traders to return this weekend and have already reassured them that everyone can be accommodated. The temporary closure will not affect their ability to trade. All the reasons people love visiting Hunstanton during half term are still here — beach walks, fantastic local traders, and that unmistakable fresh sea air.
“Borough Council officers will update borough and town councillors this week on the findings of the recent radar survey and the next steps. We simply ask visitors to follow safety guidance, avoid fenced off areas, and keep clear of ongoing works.”
The recent damage to the promenade, that has opened a hole, has also released mixed debris, including potentially some small amounts of asbestos from underneath. This has scattered on the beach close to where the cavity is, between the Waterside Bar and the Oasis. Please be aware of this as it is a danger to dogs and people walking in that area. Please avoid it should you see any, the council has engaged a local specialist asbestos removal company to periodically litter pick any debris.
