More than 90 runners took part in the Borough Council’s Beat the Tide charity run on Sunday 8 June 2025 to raise money for Hunstanton RNLI.
The 5k and 10k runs started a little later than planned due to high wind on the beach. When the weather calmed down Carolyn Flowerdew from Alive Oasis conducted a mass warm up before the participants got ready on the starting line. The RNLI’s mascot, Stormy Stan, started the event.
A small organising team of Richard Dickson, from West Norfolk Athletic Club, Kate Dunbar and Michael Shaw, from the Hunstanton Parkrun, and Jessica Pearce from the Borough Council planned and organised the event.
Cllr Sue Lintern, Cabinet Member for Culture and Events, said:
“We reintroduced this popular event to Hunstanton last year. It was good to see the high wind that was sweeping across the beach died down enough for a slightly delayed race to commence. There was a fantastic atmosphere from nearly 100 runners and their supporters on the beach.”
The event was once again run in aid of the RNLI. Jacqui Merralls from the RNLI commented: “What a super event. It was fabulous watching the participants warm up on the beach prior to setting off for their run. A massive thank you to everyone who took part in the organisation of this event, as well as a round of applause for all the entrants. Thank you so much for this fundraising in aid of the RNLI event.”
