The borough council organised Food for Thought session in King’s Lynn on Tuesday 29 October will have extra activities for children during half term to encourage more families to visit the free event.
Lily, a service that is owned and managed by the borough council, has organised 12 weeks of interactive sessions at London Road Methodist Church on 20 County Court Road, PE30 5EJ.
The weekly drop-in meetings are being held between 9:30am and 11:30 every Tuesday until 3 December 2024.
Cllr Jo Rust, Cabinet member for People and Communities, explained:
“These free sessions are already geared up for families to attend but during half term we hope as many people as possible come to sample what’s on offer. I'm planning to take my grandchildren with me.
“Food for Thought is aimed at helping residents learn new cooking skills, swap recipe ideas, and discover ways to eat healthy and nutritional food while also saving money.
“Previous sessions have made a positive contribution towards overcoming social isolation and loneliness. They are sociable and family friendly, children are always welcome to attend with an adult. If you’re a younger person who wants to learn some valuable advice about cooking on a budget I urge you to pop in. People can turn up at any point, and stay for as long as they can, but also get to taste food cooked by a professional chef.
“As we head into the winter and the increasing cost of living affects us all I believe these free weekly sessions will prove invaluable to our residents.”
The themes still to be focused on are listed below, booking is not required:
- 29 October: Autumnal cooking
- 5 November: Dietary alternatives
- 12 November: Low cost desserts
- 19 November: Fakeaway meals
- 26 November: Low calorie cooking
- 3 December: Festive savings
