Public asked for views on Part 2 of the ‘Modifications’ to the Local Plan

Local plan modifications

Published: Thursday, 17th October 2024

A six-week public consultation opens on 17 October, giving everyone the opportunity to have their say on Part 2 of the ‘Main Modifications’ to the King’s Lynn and West Norfolk Local Plan.

The consultation focuses specifically on Housing Policy LP28 and the accommodation for Gypsies, Travellers and Travelling Showpeople.

Cllr Jim Moriarty, the Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Planning and Licensing, said:

“Our Local Plan’s journey is nearly at an end and this final consultation will help us move towards formal sign off of this important document.

“Once adopted, it will guide all our development decisions moving forward and help us to establish West Norfolk firmly as a place where people and businesses can thrive.”

In March 2022, The Borough Council of King’s Lynn and West Norfolk submitted its Local Plan  for independent examination. Public examination hearings were then held by Government Planning Inspectors.

Following these hearings, the Inspectors recommended a number of changes (known as Main Modifications in planning) to make the Plan ‘sound’ (a formal planning term for a plan that can be adopted).

Each of those changes required further consultation and the focus at this stage is specifically for the proposed changes to Policy LP28, regarding provision for gypsies, travellers and travelling showpeople. Any comments and representations made in the previous Local Plan Main Modifications consultations do not need to be resubmitted.

The six-week statutory consultation gives the public the chance to have a say on these proposed changes. The consultation remains open until midnight on 29 November.

The consultation documents, including the Part 2 Main Modifications Schedule, are available to view online: www.west-norfolk.gov.uk/LPRexamination.

Hard copies of all the documents are also available at the council offices in King’s Lynn and at the borough’s libraries.

Following the closure of this consultation, the Borough Council will forward all comments to the Planning Inspectors for their consideration.

Once the Inspectors have considered the responses, alongside all the evidence presented throughout the examination, they will determine whether the Local Plan is ‘sound’ and produce a written report outlining their final recommendations. Once this has happened, the council can move to formally adopt the plan.
