The summer events season is almost over for 2024. The sun shone for the final borough council-organised summer event in King’s Lynn last weekend and we’re hopeful for a sunny Hunny on 22 September.

Cllr Bal Anota, Cabinet member for Events and Public Open Space, explains: “The Tuesday Market Place hosted more than 225 vintage cars last Sunday for the popular Classic Car Day, which is part of the wider Heritage Open Day event that takes place across King’s Lynn.

“The sun shone, the borough council organised some great entertainment on stage and thousands of people walked through the car park admiring some unique vehicles. I’m looking forward to seeing some more unique vehicles at our next, and last, free borough council activity of the summer season – The Hunstanton Soap Box Derby on Sunday 22 September.

“I’m hoping that we see a sunny hunny, some creative karts and some fast-racing times for the derby that always proves to be one of the most entertaining and fun events of the year! We had over 6000 spectators last year, I urge people to get to Hunstanton early to ensure they get a good spot to watch the whacky racing.”

Nearly 60 karts are registered to race. They will be displayed on the Green from 9:15am. Round one of the racing starts at 11:15am. Round one will be complete at 1pm, live music will then be performed on the Bandstand. Round two of racing commences at 2pm and should be complete around 4pm. More live music will be performed at the Bandstand afterwards, with trophy presentations for the winning karts from 4:30pm.

Cllr Anota added: “These free events could not take place if not for our excellent events, public open space and car parks teams that make them happen. I know that the Soap Box Derby is one of the hardest events to organise. I thank them for all they do.”
