King’s Lynn Town Deal Board with College of West Anglia students

Published: Thursday, 1st February 2024

A special meeting was held at the College of West Anglia on Friday 26th January where students were invited to ask questions and share their thoughts on the multi-million pound Towns Fund investment.

The session, which was attended by a number of students who are studying a variety of subjects, provided an opportunity for closer collaboration between the Town Deal board and young people.

The meeting took the format of a question and answer panel with board members including Chair Graham Purkins, the MP for North West Norfolk James Wild, Councillor Beales and Councillor Dark amongst those on hand to respond to the students’ queries.

The students were keen to find out more about different aspects of the work that is being delivered, including around themes of accessibility across the projects and ongoing maintenance.

And, the young people also highlighted some of their priorities, such as transport and travel links.

Graham Purkins, Chair of King’s Lynn Town Deal Board commented: “It was a fantastic session with the students, and I am so grateful to them for sharing their thoughts and ideas with us so openly.

“The students raised some really important and pertinent points which gave us all plenty to consider.

“It was clear how much the students care about the town and what happens to it, and for us, it is crucial we continue to speak to and listen to young people.

“This is their town, this is their future, and we want to continue to collaborate with young people so that we can ensure that they are part of the exciting transformation that is happening in King’s Lynn.”

Clare Pelling, Head of Learner Experience commented: “It was great to see our students taking part in such a positive and engaging meeting with the King's Lynn Town Deal board. They represented their fellow students very well and raised a number of interesting ideas about the project moving forward.”
