National Apprenticeship Week takes place from 5th to 11th February 2024 and the borough council is joining other local employers to shine a light on the amazing work being done by apprentices.
Anyone interested in becoming an apprentice can find out more when apprentices from the borough council share their experiences and discussing how they have benefited at an open morning at King’s Lynn Jobcentre, 30-34 Broad Street, on Wednesday 7 February between 10am and noon.
The theme of the 17th annual National Apprenticeship Week is ‘Skills for Life’, reflecting how apprenticeships can help individuals to develop the skills and knowledge required for a rewarding career and help businesses to develop a talented workforce that is equipped with skills for the future.
Lilly Skeels, who is studying a Level 6 Environmental Health Apprentice, said: “An Apprenticeship has allowed me to gain hands on work experience whilst earning my degree qualification. I have been lucky to receive amazing support from all my colleagues, which has helped me to gain the skills I need to be successful in my role.”
Georgia Thrower, who is studying Level 3 Business Administration, added: “Doing an apprenticeship has opened up endless opportunities for me such as potentially gaining a permanent job role or even moving on to a higher level apprenticeship. There are so many positives to becoming an apprentice including the support you have around you. My confidence has grown so much.”
Cllr Terry Parish, Leader of the borough council, said: “I have enjoyed sitting in on apprenticeship meetings and discovering the important roles our apprentices play in the organisation. I would recommend other local employers get involved and consider developing their own apprenticeship scheme. This week is the perfect opportunity to celebrate all past and present apprentices for their continued progression and dedication to their roles.”
Lorraine Gore, Chief Executive of the borough council, added: “Many staff have benefitted from apprenticeships over the last 12 years that we have run the scheme. As a council we encourage lifelong learning, and an apprenticeship is an excellent way of achieving career progression and motivation for individuals. We’re proud of what our apprentices have achieved and what they bring to our organisation.”
