Food for Thought sessions coming to Hunstanton

Food for Thought. Tuesdays at Hunstanton Town Hall from 30 January 2024

Published: Wednesday, 10th January 2024

Free food sessions to help residents trying to make ends meet, due to increasing food costs, are coming to Hunstanton.

Lily, a service that is owned and managed by the borough council, is organising 12 weeks of interactive sessions. The Community Hub in Hunstanton Town Hall, PE36 6BQ, will host the weekly drop-in meetings between 9:30am and 11:30 every Tuesday from 30 January 2024.

Cllr Jo Rust, Cabinet member for People and Communities, said: “I’m pleased to see that Food for Thought is now coming to help residents who live in and around Hunstanton following well attended sessions held in Downham Market and King’s Lynn.

“Previous sessions have made a positive contribution towards overcoming social isolation and loneliness. They are sociable and family friendly, children are welcome to attend with an adult. People can turn up at any point, and stay for as long as they can, but also get to taste food cooked by a professional chef. As the increasing cost of living continues to affect all of us, I believe these free weekly sessions will prove invaluable to local residents.”

Each week there will be tips about how to cook healthy and tasty food without breaking the bank. The themes to be focused on are listed below, booking is not required:

Week 1 (30/1): Bread and dough
Week 2 (6/2): Lunches
Week 3 (13/2): Dinners
Week 4 (20/2): Snacks
Week 5 (27/2): Healthy eating/fruit and veg
Week 6 (5/3): Dried and tinned foods
Week 7 (12/3): Batch cooking
Week 8 (19/3): Dietary alternatives
Week 9 (26/3): Low calorie cooking
Week 10 (2/4): Low cost desserts
Week 11 (9/4): Fakeaway meals
Week 12 (16/4): Low calorie cooking
