Old Hunstanton neighbourhood plan referendum

Neighbourhood Planning Referendum News

Published: Tuesday, 9th January 2024

Residents of Old Hunstanton will being able to have their say about the proposed Neighbourhood Plan for their area on 8 February.

Voters will be asked to say yes or no to the following question:

Do you want the Borough Council of King’s Lynn and West Norfolk to use the Neighbourhood Plan for Old Hunstanton to help it decide planning applications in the neighbourhood area?

Development of the Old Hunstanton Neighbourhood Plan, led by the parish council, has gone through a rigorous process. After being submitted to the borough council it has undergone an independent examination. Late in 2023, the independent examiner passed it to proceed to referendum.

The referendum is the final stage of the plan-making process, which will allow the Neighbourhood Plan to be adopted, if supported by a majority (more than 50%) of voters in the referendum.

Voting in the referendum will take place at Old Hunstanton Village Hall, 36 Old Hunstanton Road, PE36 6HS on 8 February between 7.00am and 10.00pm.

Counting will take place on Friday, 9 February, and the result of the referendum is expected to be announced soon after noon.

All adults aged 18 or over on 8 February, and who are registered to vote will be eligible to vote in the referendum. Voters should remember that they need to present photo ID.

Further details of the referendum timetable, including deadlines, are available on the borough council website.
