Christmas dinner wraps up Downham Market Food for Thought

The festive final Food for Thought session held in Downham Market on 7 December 2023.

It was beginning to look at lot like Christmas at the final Food for Thought session held in Downham Market last week.

The free events, which finished last week with Christmas dinner advice, attracted more than 30 people each week. New sessions are planned to take place in Hunstanton next year.

Lily, a service that is owned and managed by the Borough Council of King’s Lynn & West Norfolk, organised the 12 weekly drop-in sessions held at Eternity Downham Market every Thursday to help residents trying to make ends meet, due to increasing food costs.

Cllr Jo Rust, Cabinet member for People and Communities, said: “Residents in Downham Market have really engaged with these sessions and even tried some of the cooking at home, then brought in their creations the following week. Many of the residents shared their own tips with other attendees.

“It’s important that we offer this to as many of our residents as possible. Having held well attended sessions at venues across King’s Lynn and now Downham Market I’m pleased to see that we can introduce them to residents living in and around Hunstanton in the new year.

“The increasing cost of living continues to affect all of us. These free sessions are sociable and family friendly, children are welcome to attend with an adult. People can turn up at any point during the session, and stay for as long as they can, but also get to taste food cooked by a professional chef. I'd urge people to attend these sessions and find out for themselves how good they are.”

Details of the new weekly Hunstanton sessions will be announced early next year by Lily and the borough council.
