Over 18,000 people attended one of the regions biggest free firework displays on Friday 10 November 2023. Fawkes in the Walks is organised by the Borough Council of King’s Lynn & West Norfolk.

It was a case of better late than never as the event is normally held in The Walks park on the first Friday in November, with the exception of this year due to the park being waterlogged following Storm Ciarán the previous Friday.

Cllr Simon Ring, Cabinet member for Tourism, Events and Marketing at the borough council, said:

“This event is now one of the best attended free fireworks displays in the east. Our public open space team did an incredible job in preparing the park for over 18,000 people especially considering the condition the park was in the previous week, due to the waterlogged grass following Storm Ciarán, had meant the display had to be postponed.

“The borough council started putting this event on 15 years ago to reduce the amount of impromptu firework displays and to have a positive impact to any injuries that may occur from private events.

“I’m pleased to see so many residents came to enjoy the display a week later than expected. I also cannot thank the parks and open spaces team, as well as the events team enough. Not only did they prepare the Walks for the event, they cleared it up afterwards and also prepared our public spaces for Remembrance Sunday in the same weekend. I would also, personally, like to thank the King’s Lynn Park Runners for clearing up the park on Saturday morning. I’m aware that there are efforts being made to reintroduce the Friends of the Walks community group, I’m sure they too would help in the efforts to prepare and repair the park following these events in the future.”
