Three good causes are set to benefit from the West Norfolk Wins Community Lottery's 5th birthday bonus competition.

New and existing causes were invited to take part in the competition by encouraging their supporters to get behind them and purchase a few tickets to help them reach an increase in tickets sales of 20 tickets across the five weeks of the competition.

Cllr Chris Morley, Cabinet Member for Finance, said:

"We were hopeful that this competition might encourage more people to support their local charities and community groups who are struggling at this time with the rising cost of living. Unfortunately, it would appear that people simply don't have spare money to support community groups through the lottery. It is understandable, but shows just how hard it is for charities to fund raise at the present time.

"Discover Downham Heritage have managed to get their supporters to buy more tickets and will therefore be awarded with a payment of £1,000. We wanted to acknowledge the efforts of the other two top performing charities - Swan Youth Project Downham, who will receive £500 and brand new good cause Linnets in the Community, who will receive £250.

"The competition may not have achieved the tickets sales that we hoped, but we are delighted that we have encouraged a new cause to sign up, and that we have raised the profile of the lottery's existence. We will continue to promote the Community Lottery as a fund-raising option for local charities and would urge people to show their support. For every £1 ticket purchased, 60p goes to community good causes, all based in West Norfolk. It's a simple way for people to support their local community and they could even win a prize."

The three winning good causes will be invited to a presentation in the Mayor's Parlour on 16 November 2023, where they will receive their prize and be invited to share their top tips for gaining supporters for their cause.
