BP Pulse will start work on Monday 26 June to upgrade the electric car charging points. This will impact access to some of the external bays in the car park.
The three-week programme of upgrades will create 50kw chargers that can charge up to six vehicles at a time. The electricity will be paid for by the user via an app, using a BP pulse membership card, RF ID card, credit or debit card.
To enable these works, external bays on the ground floor of St James Multi-Storey will be closed for the duration of the works that are taking place from 26 June until 14 July 2023.
Side access to disabled parking will be closed on 28, 29 and 30 June so that underground cables can be installed. Disabled drivers are advised to use the bays in the car park that can be accessed through the barrier or use nearby parking on Blackfriars Street.
To upgrade EV chargers in the area the borough council secured a grant of £195,000 from the government’s Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV) and a further contribution of nearly £90,000 from BP Pulse, as well as its own contribution of £73,500.
