Low-cost activities for families this Easter

Easter of Play. Activities £1 with an Alive Card or 50p with an Alive Concession Card

Published: Thursday, 23rd March 2023

An initiative between the borough council and Alive West Norfolk that gives young people access to low-cost activities is being continued through the Easter holiday.

Following the popularity last year of the second Summer of Play, and the introduction of the Autumn of Play, the borough council has teamed up with Alive to reduce the cost of swimming for juniors in Downham Market, Hunstanton and King’s Lynn and Alive Adventures in Hunstanton to as little as 50p if you have an Alive Concession Card or £1 with an Alive Card, saving children, teens and families a sizeable amount of money on fun things to do during the Easter holiday.

Neil Gromett, Managing Director of Alive West Norfolk, said:

“Alive West Norfolk aims to provide opportunities to all and with the support of our partners we have been able to put together a package of activities that will make sure young people across the borough can have fun, socialise and be active.

“Our summer and autumn programmes were a huge hit and hundreds of sessions were enjoyed by children, teens and families at a significantly reduced cost. We hope to see people making use of the extended scheme during the Easter holiday.”

Mark Whitmore, Assistant Director Health, Wellbeing and Public Protection at the borough council, added:

“The Easter holidays can be expensive for families and the increasing cost of living may mean that trips out and leisure activities are out of reach for some. By keeping the cost of these activities low we can hopefully give young people and families something to enjoy this Easter and, more importantly, this activity is good for physical and mental wellbeing.”

These activities will be in addition to the usual holiday clubs and the free opportunities available through the borough’s network of open spaces, beaches and more than 80 play areas.

At Alive West Norfolk, the activities on offer are swimming ages 18 and under (junior). The discount is available when booking with a Junior Alive Card Concession. Also Alive Adventures soft play for ages 10 and under.

The charge for an Alive Card is £10 for a junior. Alive Concession Card is free. Both cards reduce the cost of activities at Alive West Norfolk venues for residents.

Eligibility for concession cards is State Pension Age (66 years of age and over), NHS Tax Credit Exemption, Income Support Claimant, Job Seekers Allowance, Housing Benefit Claimant, Incapacity Benefit Claimant/Employment Support Allowance, Disability Living Allowance/Personal Independence Payment/Attendance Allowance, Universal Credit, Full time student over 18 years of age, Children living with and dependent of anyone in the above categories (excluding State Pension Age) and Pupil Premium.

In addition to this activity Norfolk County Council is subsidising holiday clubs to support working families during the holidays with places available from 9am to 3pm for only £10 including a meal.  For those families who qualify for the Alive Concession Card these clubs are FREE through the Big Norfolk Holiday Fun programme.
