The closing date to apply to take part in this years Hunstanton Soap Box Derby is next week. Teams have until Wednesday 15 March to register for the event organised by the borough council.

Cllr Graham Middleton, Deputy Leader and Cabinet member for Business, Culture and Heritage:

“I’m looking forward to the first Sunday of the Easter school holidays for this fun event.

“39 teams from across Norfolk, as well as further afield including Bury St Edmunds and Spalding, have already signed up to race down Hunstanton high street on 2 April but we want more. The clock is ticking, you have until next Wednesday, 15 March, to sign up on our website.”

Details about the event and the application form to sign up can be found at west-norfolk.gov.uk/soapboxderby

This year marks 70 years since the first Soap Box Derby was held in Hunstanton, in 1953.

The course starts high up on Greevegate, has a few twists and turns, karts will ‘bunny hop’ over a new improved ramp, and ends up on Beach Terrace Road overlooking the sea.

There are four categories that can be entered, by driver age:

  • 10-12 years
  • 13-15 years
  • adults 16+
  • over 65s
