Leader of the borough council is pleased to see that the borough council’s offer of support for expert mediation towards helping resolve current issues at Downham Market Town Council has been accepted

Even though the borough council is an entirely separate and impartial entity from the town council, Cllr Stuart Dark MBE had written to Downham Market Town Councillors with a financial commitment to help fund expert mediation.

Cllr Dark said: “I appreciate the community concern with regards to recent reports in the media. I am pleased to say that we have been contacted by representatives from all sides who have agreed to constructively engage in mediation.

“Our Monitoring Officer is now going to work with the parties to find an appropriate provider and commence the process promptly.”

Liz Truss, MP for South West Norfolk, commented: “I very much welcome this announcement. It is a positive step forward and I am extremely pleased that the offer from Kings Lynn and West Norfolk Borough Council to assist with mediation has been supported by all Downham Market Town Councillors.”

The offer of fifty per cent of the cost of mediation is in addition to assistance the borough council has provided to date.
