Two opportunities to help shape King’s Lynn’s future

As the development of the Town Deal projects gathers pace, young people and business owners are being invited to have their say to shape plans that will bring benefits for the future of the town.

Launching today is a survey that invites ideas from 16–25-year-olds on what they would like to see in King’s Lynn. And, also now open for feedback is consultation for small businesses – existing and future - on potential pop-up shops in King’s Lynn. 

Young People Survey: Young people are being asked to help to shape the future of King’s Lynn – and have the chance to win shopping vouchers simply by having their say.

16-25s are being invited to share their thoughts on what they’d like to see in the town, what they think is missing, and their views on career opportunities in King’s Lynn: https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/72MFRQQ

Everyone who fills in the survey can also enter into a prize draw to win £50 in shopping vouchers.

Involving young people in the development of the projects is crucial as Chair of the Town Deal Board Graham Purkins explained: “We have such a huge opportunity with the Town Deal funding to bring significant improvements to King’s Lynn – and we want these improvements to benefit everyone.

“Which is why we need to hear from young people in the area, to understand what matters to them, what they would like to see, and what could be better so our plans can reflect their needs.

“If you’re aged 16 to 25, please do spare just a few minutes to tell us what you think. We are listening.”

Harry Seaton, Managing Director of Fluential gave his support for the consultation: “As a local business owner within the 16-25 age bracket, it's wonderful to be able to have a voice when it comes to shaping the future of the town.

“I've lived in Kings Lynn since I was born, with the exception of a few months, and I'm hoping other young people will join me in creating a town we want to stick around in.”

Young people can also sign up for other opportunities to get involved through the survey, should they wish to do so

Pop-Up Opportunities Survey: Business owners, people thinking of setting up on their own, or individuals who are looking to turn a hobby into their career are being asked to share their thoughts on pop-up spaces:  https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/7CQ8NJX

Respondents are asked to think about what type of facilities they might need from a pop-up space, and more generally, what business support they would welcome. The feedback gathered in this survey will directly inform a project looking at pop-ups in King’s Lynn that is being led by Discover King’s Lynn, the King’s Lynn BID.

Vicky Etheridge, Manager of Discover King’s Lynn explained: “The research that we’ve carried out through Vision King’s Lynn over the last few years, and from the BID’s own work with businesses in the town, has revealed a real interest in, and appetite for, pop-up spaces.

“We know that pop-ups are a great way of giving small businesses a launch pad to trade and thrive and so we are really keen to look at what we can offer here in King’s Lynn.

“But we need help from businesses and potential traders to tell us what they need, what they think, and what they would like. Whether you’re in business now or thinking of setting up, we want to hear from you - please do have your say.”

Graham Purkins added: “We’ve placed feedback and engagement at the heart of developing the Town Investment Plan and the Town Deal projects. We are now getting into the detail of what we will do and by working together through consultation such as this we can shape plans that meet the needs and reflect the views of local people and businesses.”

The closing date for both surveys is 5pm on Sunday 24 October 2021.
