Information about cooling towers and how to register one
Registration
Businesses with cooling towers and evaporative condensers are required by law to register with us.
Please note: if your cooling tower or evaporative condenser falls under the HSE, we need to be made aware, as we enforce these on their behalf.
The purpose of registration is to:
- identify potential areas that could give rise to spread of infectious disease (for example, legionella)
- ensure measures are taken to eliminate the risk of such infection
To register you'll need:
- your contact details
- the number and location of cooling towers or evaporative condensers
- be able to supply a site plan
Cooling tower register
Once we receive an application we add the relevant details to our register.

If you've withdrawn a cooling tower or evaporative condenser, you'll need to contact us in writing to formally notify us. Please also email healthandsafety@west-norfolk.gov.uk so that we can update our records.
