Advice for home buyers

How to get environmental information on a property

Environmental searches

If you're buying a home you may need to conduct an environmental search on your property. We hold environmental information, including historic land use and landfill sites within the borough.

Enquiries are often raised as part of property sales. An Advice for Homebuyers and Sellers Leaflet is available. This is especially useful if your property has 'failed' an environmental search.

If you require environmental information for a particular site you can contact us using the contact details below. More detailed enquiries and larger search area requests will be assessed at an hourly rate.

Enquiry search cost

Environmental searches costs
Enquiry type Cost
Environmental information request £72.40
Detailed enquiry and larger search area request £36.20 per hour

Environmental Information Regulations

Under the Environmental Information Regulations 2004 (EIR), you can request information on the state of the environment, such as:

  • Air, water, soil, flora and fauna (including humans)
  • Information on emissions, radiation, waste, and other substances
  • Environmental factors that may affect human health or built structures

Information on how to make an EIR request, and how these are handled, can be found on our Freedom of Information page.
