Cllr Long stood in Tower Gardens, King's Lynn with the new Green Flag Award

A number of west Norfolk parks and green spaces have once again achieved a Green Flag Award.

The Walks and Tower Gardens in King's Lynn, Esplanade Gardens and Boston Square Sensory Park in Hunstanton have been recognised by the Green Flag Award Scheme as some of the very best in the world.

They are among a record-breaking 2,127 UK parks and green spaces that have received a prestigious Green Flag Award for 2021 as the scheme celebrates 25 years at the international quality mark for parks.

This international award is a sign to the public that the space boasts the highest possible environmental standards, is beautifully maintained and has excellent visitor facilities.

Cllr Brian Long, Cabinet member for Corporate Services, said: “We are delighted to once again receive Green Flag Awards for some of our wonderful parks in west Norfolk. Quality green spaces matter to residents and visitors, possibly even more since the pandemic. This award celebrates the dedication that goes into maintaining our parks and gardens to such a high standard.

“The Walks is a busy town centre park popular with families, Tower Gardens is a peaceful, contemplative space, and the Esplanade and Boston Square Sensory Park are classic seaside attractions – they’re all so different but all maintained with expertise and hard work by our staff. I’d also like to thank our volunteers – they help look after the Esplanade Gardens through our Adopt-a-Bed scheme and truly deserve a share in this award.”

Paul Todd, Green Flag Award Scheme Manager, said: “I would like to congratulate everyone involved in the 2127 parks and green spaces on their achievement”

“To meet the requirements demanded by the scheme is testament to the hard work of the staff and volunteers who do so much to ensure that their site has high standards of horticulture, safety and environmental management and is a place that supports people to live healthy lives.”
