The Mayor of King’s Lynn & West Norfolk took delivery of a new hybrid car at the town hall in King’s Lynn on Wednesday 27 November.

The BMW 5 Series Saloon hybrid car, supplied by Listers King’s Lynn, runs on petrol or electric and is more environmentally friendly than the previous car that has been driving the mayor around the borough for nearly 15 years.

The benefits of running this hybrid car include the excellent fuel economy, especially when making short journeys around town, low emissions (less CO2 than a normal vehicle) and it’s quiet when using just electric power.

The mayor, Cllr Geoff Hipperson, said: “I welcome the replacement of the current car which, as it was becoming quite old, was costing an increasing amount to service and repair.

“The new car will be much more economical and environmentally friendly and although it is a hybrid, most of the journeys will be short enough to be completed on electric power only.”

James Martin, Corporate Sales Manager at Listers King’s Lynn, said: “We’re delighted to be supplying the mayors new car and will be proud to see it driving him around the roads of west Norfolk to carry out his duties.

“Cars have changed a lot in the 15 years he’s had the last car and it’s good to see that he and the team from the borough council have made an environmentally friendly decision.”

It’s estimated that savings of around £5,500 could be made over the next three years on running and service costs of the new vehicle.

The council has taken a 3 year lease option with a total cost to the council of £13,000. This is a better option than capital investment in a new vehicle. The lease will allow the option to switch to the latest electric vehicle technology available in the future.
