Parliamentary general election takes place this December - make sure you are registered

A UK Parliamentary general election will take place on Thursday 12 December 2019.

To stand as a candidate:

The Notice of Election has now been published.  Nomination papers must be received by the Returning Officer from today and by 4pm on Thursday 14 November 2019.

To vote in the elections:

If you are not registered, you will not be able to vote in these elections. 

You can check to see if you are registered by contacting the electoral services team on 01553 616773.

If you need to register to vote, your application must reach the Electoral Registration Officer by Tuesday 26 November 2019. Registering is easy, just visit www.gov.uk/register-to-vote and follow the steps.  You will need to provide your name, address, date of birth and national insurance number.

Unable to vote on the day:

If you are unable to vote in person on the day, you will need to apply for one of the following:

Postal vote - new applications, or amendments to existing applications to vote by post or postal proxy must be received by 5pm on Tuesday 26 November 2019.

Proxy vote - amendments to existing proxy votes must be received by 5pm on Tuesday 26 November 2019.  New applications to vote by proxy must be received 5pm on Wednesday 4 December 2019. 

Emergency proxy vote - the last day for receipt of emergency proxy vote applications on the grounds of disability or for work/service reasons (if the emergency did not exist at 5pm on Tuesday 26 November 2019) is 5pm on Thursday 12 December 2019.

Poll cards will be dispatched from Wednesday 13th November.

Postal votes for the general election will be dispatched from Tuesday 26th November.

On the day of election, 12 December 2019, polling stations will be open from 7am to 10pm.
