Cheque presented to mayor's charity

Cllr Whitby presents a cheque to the Lavender Hill Mob Theatre Company

Published: Friday, 7th July 2017

Cllr David Whitby, borough mayor for 2016/17, presented his chosen charity with the proceeds of a year of fundraising.

Each year, the Mayor of King's Lynn & West Norfolk chooses a charity that is close to their heart, and raises funds for it during their term as mayor. Cllr David Whitby chose the Lavender Hill Mob Theatre Company as his official mayor's charity for 2016/17. This week, Cllr Whitby presented the charity with a cheque for over ten thousand pounds.

Cllr David Whitby said: "It was a great privilege over the last year to get to know the Lavender Hill Mob and its fantastic team of volunteers. It drove me and my committee to go the extra mile to raise monies for this great cause. To raise an enormous £10,950 was outstanding and I did not do this alone. I would like to thank my charity committee and all those who supported me with their, time, enthusiasm and friendship over the last 12 months. The monies were well received and will help this totally voluntary organisation to help deliver workshops and performances consisting of a fully inclusive cast drawn from all walks within our local community".
