The Borough Council’s consultation asking people what should be included in the next Local Plan has entered its final week.
The ‘scoping’ consultation is an early part of the process, in which the council is asking people what is important to them as the plan is developed, and what they think of sites that have been suggested.
Cllr Jim Moriarty, the Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Planning and Licensing, said:
“We’ve already spoken with hundreds of people but we’re sending out this reminder to make sure that we’ve heard from everyone who wants to have a say in how the Local Plan is developed.
“We have made a big effort to speak with groups who will be directly affected by future development but who we often don’t hear from – especially young people and people experiencing poverty. We have had some very positive conversations and they’ve given us some fascinating, and really thoughtful, insights.
“There’s still a week to go so if you have an opinion, we’d love to hear it.”
‘Scoping’ is the first consultation stage in the plan-making process. During this consultation, which happens before the formal part of the plan-making process starts, people are being asked what is important for the council to think about as it works on the plan.
While identifying sites for new homes is an important part of the Local Plan, it also covers a much wider range of issues, such as schools, transport, employment, medical facilities and environmental issues.
They are also being given the opportunity to identify where in the borough they would prioritise new development, and to comment on sites that landowners have put forward as possibly being suitable for development.*
More information and the consultation can be found directly on the consultation website or on our scoping consultation page.
Paper copies of the survey are available from the reception of the council’s offices at:
Kings Court
Chapel Street
King’s Lynn
PE30 1EX
The survey closes at midnight on Monday, 29 September 2026.
*It is important to understand the difference between sites that have been put forward by landowners, and sites that have been proposed for development by the council.
At this stage, people can comment on sites which were put forward by landowners in the council’s ‘Call for Sites’ exercise, which took place earlier this year – they are not sites that are definitely being proposed for development at this stage.
All the suggested sites are assessed both individually, and in the context of findings from the scoping consultation and other evidence-gathering work. The council will then use all its findings to decide which sites it thinks should be developed, and draft the Local Plan. This draft will be subject to a full public consultation next year.
