The Mayor of King's Lynn & West Norfolk welcomed representatives from the Fife community to King's Lynn last week to mark the 150th anniversary of the 'great gale' and St Monans fishing disaster.
A service was held at St Nicholas Chapel, followed by wreaths laid at the Beautiful Star memorial at Hardwick Road Cemetery on Wednesday 3 December.
In 1875 a terrible storm resulted in 37 fishermen travelling from the Scottish village of St Monans tragically losing their lives.
Eight bodies were recovered near King's Lynn, and the people of West Norfolk paid for two funerals for them, as well as a monument at Hardwick Road Cemetery.
