Information on the national policy documents that guide us

National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF)

This document sets out the Government's planning policies for England, and how these are expected to be applied. It was originally published on 27 March 2012. Updates were published in July 2018, February 2019 and the current (4th) version was published in July 2021.

Planning practice guidance

You can find planning practice guidance on the GOV.UK planning practice guidance page. This guidance provides supporting information to the NPPF.

Planning policy for traveller sites

This policy should be read in conjunction with the NPPF. It replaced Circular 01/2006 Planning for Gypsy & Traveller Caravan Sites, and Circular 04/2007 Planning for Travelling People. You can view the policy on the GOV.UK website - Planning policy for traveller sites.
