Information about the Hunstanton Prosperity Coastal Community Team (CCT)

Hunstanton Prosperity Coastal Community Team

In 2015, Hunstanton was awarded Coastal Community Team (CCT) status by the Department for Communities and Local Government.

Hunstanton's Coastal Community Team is called 'Hunstanton Prosperity'.

The initiative enables local communities to come together and develop a common vision and plans for their area. It brings together representatives from public bodies, community groups and businesses, including:

  • Borough Council Portfolio Holder for Systems and Economic Development(1)
  • Borough Council ward member (3)
  • County Council division member (1)
  • Hunstanton Town Councillors (3)
  • Chamber of Trade (2)
  • Hunstanton Town Team (1)
  • Hunstanton Civic Society (1)
  • West Norfolk Camping and Caravan Operators (1)
  • West Norfolk Tourism Forum (1)
  • Hunstanton Lions
  • Hunstanton Rotary Club
  • Hunstanton Round Table

The Team’s work is underpinned by The Hunstanton Town Centre and Southern Seafront Masterplan (2008). This was prepared following extensive consultation with the local community. The masterplan sets out the overall vision for the town as:

  • an active town - expand the existing water sports and activities on offer
  • a local town - which meets the needs of its residents with an expanded retail core
  • a more attractive seaside destination - where visitors stay longer and spend more
  • a town that respects its heritage - whilst looking to the future
  • an environmental town - making the most of the town's natural assets

Priorities for Hunstanton Prosperity

The first task for the team was to produce an Economic Plan for the town. And to base it on guidance from the Department for Communities and Local Government. This was prepared in 2015. It has subsequently been updated in 2017. The Economic Plan identifies projects which the team have been progressing since 2015, and include:

  • Hunstanton Prospectus – update to the masterplan to reflect the changing economic climate, reflect the projects which have been completed over the last eight years and set the priorities for the CCT over the next 10 years
  • commissioning of a Visitor Survey, report published in 2017

Hunstanton Prosperity priorities for coming year are as follows:

  • Implementation of the Heritage Gardens Project (funded by the Borough Council and Heritage Lottery Fund and Big Lottery Fund) for improvements to the Green, Esplanade Garden and Cliff Top
  • analysis and investigation of projects in response to the results of the Visitor Survey
  • support the further development of the Hunstanton Sailing and Watersport Club
  • develop an events programme to increase the number of events in the town for residents and visitors
  • funding application for a replacement skate park
  • work with the Borough Council and County Council proposals that are being developed under the One Public Estate initiative
  • meetings with local businesses and attraction operators
  • secure funding to undertake feasibility of the proposed Tidal Lagoon and Promenade improvements
