Public Space Protection Orders (PSPOs)

Find out about the public space protection orders in place in the borough.

Inconsiderate and inappropriate vehicle use

There is a Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) to restrict inappropriate and inconsiderate vehicle use causing vehicle-related anti-social behaviour.

This order came into force on 2 April 2022, for an initial period of three years, after which time it will be reviewed.

Restrictions within the order include:

  • driving at excessive speed
  • sudden and/or repeated acceleration and deceleration
  • street racing
  • stunts (including, but not limited to, doughnutting, handbrake turns, drifting, and burnouts)
  • continuous engine revving while stationary
  • unnecessary use of the horn
  • amplified music
  • littering from a vehicle
  • threatening, abusive or intimidating language or behaviour associated with vehicle use

Failure to comply with the PSPO could result in a fixed penalty notice of £80 or a court summons. Police and other authorised personnel will be able to issue fixed penalty notices.

Alcohol PSPOs

Alcohol consumption can cause alcohol related anti-social behaviour in public. It can have an adverse effect on the quality of life of those in the locality. This has been noticed in the areas of:

  • King's Lynn
  • Hunstanton
  • Downham Market

Alcohol related anti-social behaviour is often enough to warrant restrictions. The PSPOs explain the restrictions we've put in place within the area.

Please note; these orders do not place an automatic ban on consuming alcohol within the zones. But they place a restriction on consumption where it's causing, or is likely to cause, alcohol related disorder.
