The Council has a legal duty to enforce the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 and related legislation.

The Health and Safety Section carry out regular checks on offices, shops, and other non-industrial premises.  (The Health and Safety Executive deal with factories, construction, agriculture and government buildings).  This ensures that safe and healthy working conditions are provided for all employees, the self-employed and members of the public visiting these premises and aim to ensure that work premises are safe for employees and visitors to them and that accidents are prevented wherever possible.
