Young or old, families will find plenty to do in
Hunstanton. Purpose built in 1846 by local landowner Henry Styleman
le Strange, 'Sunny Hunny' is the ideal location for a seaside
holiday with all the trimmings.
Famous for its striped cliffs, acres of sand and clear,
shallow water, Hunstanton also offers lots of fun attractions for
all ages (and weather conditions!).
Built mostly in warm Norfolk carrstone, Hunstanton is an
attractive Victorian town with a friendly holiday atmosphere. It is
clean, tidy and welcoming – winning Seaside Awards for cleanliness
and amenities for the past eight years operated by
Hunstanton & Heacham Resort
Services – and offers plenty for those who prefer a
more relaxed holiday, with bowls, pitch and putt, crazy golf,
concerts and the beautiful Esplanade Gardens overlooking the
sea.
The town centre and seafront are both easily accessible to disabled
visitors and new to Hunstanton is a specially designed 'Sensory
Garden', with opportunities to touch, hear and smell the plants and
sculptures.
Hunstanton also has its very own theatre – the
'Princess',
which has a spectacular summer show, as well as a variety of other
concerts, films and shows throughout the year and a hugely popular
Christmas pantomime.
The town also has its own art gallery, the coal shed which
hosts many exhibitions throughout the year featuring local
history.
The town's
Oasis Leisure
Centre, with its well equipped fitness suite, has a
tropically heated pool with aquaslide, giant inflatables, floats
and jacuzzi, and also offers 'dry' activities like bowls and
squash, and a softplay area for toddlers.
In summer, look out for the colourful Tractor Train which
carries visitors the length of the seafront, a favourite with young
and old alike. Take a trip with
Searles Sea Tours to see
the seals on the unique Wash Monster, a World War II amphibian
craft, leaving from the South Promenade which will
take you out to your boat.
Along the promenade is the
Hunstanton Sea Life
Sanctuary, where diver's eye viewing tanks, a 'touch'
pool and an underwater tunnel bring visitors face to face with an
amazing collection of sea creatures, and there are regular talks
and feeding displays at the seal hospital.
Ten pin bowling is close by as well as the usual seaside
favourites such as the fun fair, amusements and beach
ponies. Walkers can pick up the start of the
Norfolk Coast Path in
Hunstanton and catch the
CoastHopper
bus back to the town.
