Town Centre Re-development

The Walks Restoration Project
|
King’s Lynn has had to face a legacy of challenges from its development in the 1960s as an overspill town for London. This resulted in a relatively low value low skilled economy and the need to drive up educational attainment, skills and aspirations.
The town has responded to these challenges in a positive way and some major improvements have taken place since 2000. These include;
£4.34m
Restoration of the Walks
in 2008 with funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
A £50m
redevelopment of the town centre
, including the new
Vancouver Quarter
retail space in 2004 and 701 space multi storey car park on 2006.
£10m redevelopment of Anglia Canners site to St Nicholas Retail Park.
Transportation improvements including A47 flyover at Hardwick Roundabout in 2002.
£4.8m enhancement of the historic South Quay as part of the Millenium North Sea Haven and Custom House Project in 2000.
