Sports Development

The Sports Development Unit works in partnership with various agencies to co-ordinate opportunities for people to take part in sport, as well as to promote the health benefits of an active lifestyle.

We not only provide information for facility based activities but community based activities as well.  The Unit can provide information on local clubs, coach education and training along with advice and encouragement for local organisations to promote a wide range of sport in their communities.

The Sports Development Unit organises sporting events throughout the year.

The Tour of Britain comes to King's Lynn on 16 September and is the UK's biggest professional bicycle race and a centrepiece of the British sporting calendar. Starting off in the Tuesday Market Place the a route winds through West Norfolk on to Norwich and finishes in Great Yarmouth.

The Inter Village Games is staged at the end of June and is a day of sporting fun and competition for villages in the borough.  The day resembles a latge sports festival with a great atmosphere for both the young and old alike.

The main objective of  Lifestyles is to showcase Hunstanton as a venue for extreme sports. Lifestyles host National ranked competitions in Kitesurfing and Windsurfing and have demonstations and competitions involving some top pro skaters and BMXers. We offer various 'come and have a go' sessions with activities for all the family to participate.

Let's Get Active is a boroughwide initiative along with key partner organisations to get people in West Norfolk enjoying the benefits of an active, healthy lifestyle.

The Bespak Grand East Anglia Run is Norfolk's biggest 10k road race.

Why not treat yourself to a week of bowls and enter the Hunstanton and District Open Bowls Tournament playing in the idyllic setting of Cliff Parade Bowls Greens in Hunstanton over looking the Wash.  The week of competition see bowlers from not just West Norfolk but from all over the country descend on the seaside resort to play bowls.

The Sports Development Unit was assessed by Quest and gained a highly commended score in December 2009.  Quest is the UK quality scheme for Sport and Leisure and is a tool for continuous improvement, designed primarily for the management of leisure facilities and leisure development.
