Looking for a healthier, happier,
less stressed life.
Then West Norfolk's
'Let's Get Active'
campaign is just what the doctor
ordered!?

Kings Lynn & West Norfolk Borough Council along with key
partner organisations have launched the campaign to get people
in West Norfolk enjoying the benefits of an active, healthy
lifestyle.
The campaign has been developed following recent research of
activity levels in West Norfolk. Research shows that here in West
Norfolk we're below the national average when it comes to getting
regular exercise and taking part in sport.
Nationally 21% of the
population take part in 'moderate intensity' activity three times a
week. In West Norfolk the figure is just over 18%.
Over half of West Norfolk
residents - and nearly three in five women - don't do any form of
regular exercise.

The Borough Council's Directory of Sport is being updated to
give contact details for dozens of local clubs and associations -
and special events are being planned to inspire people to improve
their fitness. As well as cycling, running and team sports
initiatives there are also plans in the pipeline to establish
basketball and women's running clubs in the area.
£140,000 has been pledged by local partners and the National
Lottery towards the campaign - some of which will be specifically
aimed at older people.

Let's Get Active Outdoors
The Borough Council of Kings Lynn and West Norfolk maintain a
wide network of differing types of public open spaces that are
freely accessible to local people. New play areas at The Walks and
Friars Play Area in Kings Lynn cater for little people and the
wider public space offer walks and opportunities for free healthy
activities.
The park network is being constantly improved and
developed. New ideas to encourage use by a wide range of
residents are being undertaken by numerous different groups from
youth organisations to Age Concern. Even by taking a football to
your local park with some friends or going for a leisurely walk
will improve fitness and wellbeing. For further information about
your local park please contact the Borough Council on 01553
616200.
